Toegankelijkheidsverklaring

Summary

  • We build the site to WCAG 2.2 level AA and test it with a keyboard, browser zoom and a screen reader.
  • We do not claim full conformance; known limitations are listed below.
  • If something gets in your way on the site or in the studio, tell us at [email protected] or 020 846 3172.
  • We reply within 2 working days and work out a solution with you.

01 Our commitment

Variatesystems B.V. wants everyone to be able to find information on recording, mixing and mastering and to request a session, including people with low vision, screen reader users, keyboard-only users and anyone who finds long texts hard going. We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, which also underpin the European standard EN 301 549.

Since 28 June 2025 the European Accessibility Act sets requirements for certain digital services. Micro-enterprises providing services are exempt, which covers our studio. We follow the guidelines anyway, because they make the site better for everyone. The Dutch version of this statement is authoritative.

02 What we have done

  • Pages use real headings, lists and tables, so a screen reader can follow the structure.
  • Everything, including the menu, the cookie banner and the contact form, works with a keyboard alone and shows a visible focus.
  • Text and buttons have sufficient colour contrast; information is never conveyed by colour alone.
  • Photos carry descriptive alt text.
  • The site stays usable at 200% zoom and on narrow screens without horizontal scrolling.
  • Form fields have visible labels and clear error messages.
  • Animation is reduced when your system is set to reduce motion.
  • Each page declares its language, so reading software pronounces Dutch or English correctly.

03 Known limitations

  • The contact form is processed by FormSubmit. We have no control over that service's own pages, such as a possible anti-spam check. If the form does not work for you, email [email protected] or call 020 846 3172.
  • The map link opens OpenStreetMap, an external site whose accessibility we do not control. Directions are also given as text on the contact page.
  • Audio examples, if we publish any, do not always come with a written description. Instrumental music is hard to put into words; in that case we briefly describe what you hear.
  • Legal pages such as the terms and conditions inevitably use formal language. Feel free to ask if anything is unclear.

04 Accessibility of the studio

The studio is at Wibautstraat 164 in Amsterdam. Wibautstraat metro station (lines 51, 53 and 54) is about a three-minute walk away, roughly ten minutes by metro from Amsterdam Centraal. Bikes can go in the racks in front of the building; street parking is paid and limited.

The 3 rooms, including a 42 m² live room and a 9 m² vocal booth, are compact and acoustically treated. If you use a wheelchair, have an assistance dog, need extra breaks or come with a support person, mention it when you book. We will check the setup with you beforehand, schedule extra time and talk you through the route. Sessions last at least 2 hours, which leaves room to set up calmly.

05 How we test

After every significant change we check the site with keyboard navigation, browser zoom, a screen reader (VoiceOver on macOS and iOS) and automated checks for contrast and missing labels. Automated tools do not catch everything, so we also read new pages ourselves for clarity. This statement was prepared on 5 October 2026.

06 Reporting a problem

If you run into a barrier, send a message to [email protected] or call 020 846 3172 (Mon–Fri 10–22, Sat 11–18). Tell us the page, what you were trying to do and, if you like, which assistive tools you use. We reply within 2 working days. If we cannot fix it right away, we help you another way, for example by taking your request over the phone.

Anything you send us in the process is handled under our privacy policy.

07 If you are not satisfied

If our answer does not solve the problem, let us know again so that our founder Sanne de Vries looks into it personally. You can also file a complaint with the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights (College voor de Rechten van de Mens) if you believe you were disadvantaged because of a disability.
